Currently, the VIA accelerated Linux graphics driver supports XRandR 1.2. To use XRandR 1.2, xserver 1.3 or above is required.
XRandR stands for the “X Resize and Rotate” extension for X Window System. It allows dynamic control of display resolution, refresh rate, position, and orientation. You can use the command line to apply the dynamic changes. Refer to the manual page of xrandr to get more information.
This part demonstrates how to configure X when using VIA Graphics Driver with the XRandR extension enabled. All of the configuration content relates to X config file which locates at /etc/X11/xorg.conf. You may get the xorg.conf sample provided in Appendix D. X Config Sample (Using the XRandR Extension).
If you don't intend to use the XRandR extension, turn to Part III. Configuration Instructions (Not Using the XRandR Extension) for configuration instructions.
However, there are some common configurations whenever the XRandR extension is used or not. You can find them in Part V. More Configuration Instructions.
